Black History Speeches

Dear Parents/Guardians
To bring a conclusion to our studying of influential African-Americans, students will give speeches on the different individuals we have studied. Speeches will take place on Monday, March 6th and Tuesday, March 7th. To prepare for their speeches, students, with their classroom partners, viewed books as well as searched the internet to find and record information. Students have worked very hard and have been very interested in learning about their history. I am very proud of each student!

*Individuals the speeches will be on include: Ruby Bridges, Walter Payton, Wilma Rudolph, Matthew A. Henson, Harriet Tubman, Mae Jemison, Willie Mays, Langhston Hughes, Maya Angelou and Jean DuSable.

Jesus Is The Reason

2nd Grade A class would like to share a couple of reasons why we love Jesus/God:

1. He protects us.
2. He died on the cross for our sins.
3. He made parents who love us.
4. He made animals we can play with.
5. He is a good God.
6. He first loved us.
7. He created schools so we can learn.
8. He gives us food so we can eat and live.
9. He made us.

Always rememeber, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Hooray for a succesful trip!

Yesterday, my class, along with Mrs. Boone's class went to the Austin Branch Library. As we started the trip off, I was a little worried because it was a cold morning. However, we arrived at the library in good time and the students (and I) did not have frost-bite. At the library, one of the people we learned about was Garrett A. Morgan, who invented the traffic light. The highlight of the field trip was when students were able to get their own library cards. (Previously, I sent library card applications home for the parents to complete.) *Funny thought: When I distrubted the cards to the students later that day at school, I congratulated them. On what?!? I do not know, but my students felt very honored to receive them.*
I thank God for an excellent field trip! hjiz

P.S.- The weather warmed up on our way back to school.
P.S.S.- I want to thank Ms. Adams, Mrs. Collins, Mr. Boone and Mr. Johnson for acompaning my class on the trip.

Partner Morning

This morning, (Wednesday, Febraury 8th, 2006) our class had some very special vistors. Our four guest were individuals who have donated funds to Circle. These funds are used to assist with what the parents pay to further ensure each student receives an excellent education. In our short time together, our guest asked the students questions and vise-versa. We enjoyed meeting them and look forward to the next time when we can meet those who contribute to Circle.
